The first 3D TVs are hitting the shelves. Samsung and Sony are offering LED backlit LCD 3D HDTVs, while Panasonic is pushing a Plasma 3D HDTV. Despite the LCD dominance, I am still a huge fan of Plasma because of its vibrant image quality. It looks like Plasma is the better choice for the new 3D experience as well.
Consumer Reports has published a first test of 3D HDTVs comparing a 7000 LCD Samsung 3D TV with the Panasonic VT-20 3D TV.
Consumer Reports sees the Panasonic Plasma delivering a crisper 3D picture is no ghosting. Additionally you can still see the 3D image if you tilt your head. On the Samsung the image goes dark if you watch side ways with the 3D glasses. This means you have to sit straight through the whole 3D movie. I tend to shift around and lie down during movie watching at home.
No matter if Plasma or LCD, I am still the opinion that the best way to bring 3D home it with a 3D Projector. TVs are just too small to deliver an immersive 3D experience. The LG CF3D 3D Projector is on my short list, when it will become affordable. The $10k price tag is too hard to stomach right now.
