Michael Jackson passed away a year ago today. He was 50. The year that followed has marked a celebration of his life, invigorating legions of fans old and new.

The past 12 months have also made clear that his life was as unusual as his career was successful. Personally and professionally, the icon truly had no peers.

Only Lady Gaga topped Michael Jackson in albums sold in 2009, an indication of his legacy. But the tragic, bizarre details of his demise are equally noteworthy.

On top of the immediate causes of his death, and the role of Dr. Conrad Murray, are lingering questions about how a star so bright fell so far from his past glory.

When it comes to Michael Jackson, truth is stranger than fiction. Here's a look back at some of the scandals and stories THG has covered since June 25, 2009:

Michael in Black and White

R.I.P. Michael Jackson (1958-2009).

June 26, 2009: The coroner rules there was no foul play. More than six months later, however, Dr. Conrad Murray would face involuntary manslaughter charges.

June 30, 2009: Tabloids first report that Jackson's friend, Dr. Arnold Klein, is actually the biological father of his two older children, Prince and Paris Jackson.

July 6, 2009: On the eve of Jackson's memorial service, U.S. Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) decries society for glorifying MJ, who he calls a pedophile child molester.

July 7, 2009: MJ;s star-studded memorial service packs L.A.'s Staples Center and draws tens of millions of TV viewers; Paris Jackson's tears steal the show.

July 8, 2009: Bill O'Reilly likens Michael to O.J. Simpson.

July 13, 2009: La Toya Jackson says MJ was murdered.

July 17, 2009: Tabloids report that Paris, Prince and Blanket want Michael's sister to raise them, and that Norway dancer Omer Bhatti is Michael's "secret son."

July 24, 2009: Investigators formally begin looking into Dr. Murray's actions, specifically whether he injected Michael with the powerful anesthetic Propofol.

July 27, 2009: Omer Bhatti's mom may also be Blanket's mom; Kai Chase and Grace Rwaramba both give interviews regarding the late singer's final days.

August 1, 2009: Debbie Rowe, the mother of Paris and Prince, is not involved at all. But she's the subject of so many bogus rumors, she files huge lawsuits.

August 9, 2009: Michael's friend Mark Lester says he might be Paris' dad.

August 24, 2009: Prince Michael Malachi Jet Jackson claims he's MJ's son.

August 31, 2009: Blanket's mother is now rumored to be an unnamed Mexican nurse named Helena, and his father is rumored to be Macaulay Culkin.

September 2, 2009: Paris gets a haircut; Security collects DNA evidence.

October 22, 2009: Numerous parties, including Michael's shady father Joe, question the legal validity of the singer's will, which is nevertheless ruled valid.

October 28, 2009: Michael Jackson's This Is It, a documentary of rehearsal footage of the superstar preparing for a tour that never was, his theaters.

November 1, 2009: An alleged autopsy photo is leaked, its validity questionable.

Janet and Michael Jackson

Michael and Janet Jackson were very close.

November 18, 2009: Janet Jackson gives her first interviews since her brother died, saying her family was not naive and tried to intervene many times.

December 22, 2009: Jackson's FBI file is released, and as weird as you think.

January 8, 2010: The LAPD concludes its investigation into Jackson's death.

February 1, 2010: The Grammy Awards honor Michael, with Prince, Paris and Blanket on hand to receive an award on his behalf and make him proud.

February 2, 2010: Murray is officially charged with involuntary manslaughter.

February 8, 2010: Katherine Jackson calls Murray a monster and says MJ's death was not natural; Joe and La Toya say the charges aren't enough.

February 9, 2010: Michael's autopsy is released, and as weird as you think.

February 17, 2010: The timeline of Michael Jackson's death becomes a point of contention between the prosecution and Dr. Conrad Murray's defense.

March 2, 2010: One of Jermaine Jackson's kids, also living under the roof of Katherine Jackson, buys a stun gun and tries to taser poor little Blanket.

March 15, 2010: Omer Bhatti reportedly tells Michael's kids that HE is their father now; Other reports circulate that the kids are living in utter chaos.

April 4, 2010: Murray's defense strategy is outlined, and fairly simple: Michael Jackson killed himself with Propofol when Murray left to use the can.

The Bad Doc

BAD DOC: Will Conrad Murray be held accountable?

April 7, 2010: Murray reportedly refuses a plea deal, claiming that Jackson was an addict who would "push the line" and do anything to get his way.

May 3, 2010: Jason Pfeiffer alleges a gay affair with Michael Jackson; Arnold Klein backs him up; Both face death threats and widespread ridicule.

May 14, 2010: Elizabeth Taylor defends her old friend, lambasting Klein.

June 14, 2010: Joe Jackson blames Katherine for Michael's death, while also filing a lawsuit against promoter AEG for pushing his son too hard.

June 21, 2010: Katherine, the children's legal guardian, says they have no friends, but are going to a real school this fall, and are generally happy.

June 23, 2010: Joe claims Conrad Murray was drinking at a strip club before treating Michael on that fateful day; The doc calls this pure nonsense.

Tiger Woods may have stuck his driver in one too many open bags (if you know what we mean!) - but new evidence proves these extra practice rounds did NOT lead to the one result for which a golfer can never take a mulligan:

A baby.

Over the last couple weeks, Devon James - mistress number... who the heck knows at this point?!? - has claimed to anyone with a microphone that Tiger is the father of her nine-year old son.

She stuck by this statement even after sources confirmed the existence of a DNA test that disproved Woods' paternity. Now, that test has actually been made public.

Giving credit to Kikster.com for breaking the news, TMZ has in its possession documents that say Devon was made aware in 2002 that her son is the child of some dude named Pele Watkins.

Tiger

If there was ever a reason for a fist pump...

In fact, according to science, there's a .001% chance that anyone other than Watkins is the dad. So you can breathe a major sigh of relief, Tiger.

To understand how low those odds are, consider: they are the same as Elin ever taking you back.

Apple is officially releasing the iPhone 4 today in five markets: United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany and Japan.
Because of the time difference, Japanese iPhone fans already got their iPhone 4 already in hand. Reuters reports that their have been long lines in Tokyo at Softbank's flagship store. 300 customers have been waiting to get their hands on a new iPhone 4.

Next up is Europe. Long lines for the iPhone 4 already formed yesterday in London according to Electric Pig. In Paris 200 to 250 people are lining up at the Champs-Elysées according to Reuters (France). In Germany a report appears talking about a 32GB iPhone 4 shortage.

In the United States lines for the iPhone 4 have already formed, and Apple fans camp out during the night. See reports on MacRumors.

The chances that you get an iPhone 4 with pre-order are slim. Most stores just carry the stock that has been already reserved. The best way to get an iPhone 4 was to pre-order in the middle of the night on June 15th online before the servers broke down and the iPhone 4 was sold out. Several iPhone 4 customers who have their new iPhone 4 ordered online already have it in hand since Tuesday. Keep this in mind for the iPhone 5 or the iPhone 4 Verizon.

The white iPhone 4 is now scheduled for end of July availability.

We were astonished to read it, but Heidi Montag is apparently serious about divorcing Spencer Pratt - and she's already playing the field again ... sort of.

For the first time since the separation rumors started, she took to her Twitter and openly said she's getting divorced, then promptly hit on Justin Bieber.

She may rue the day once his fans get wind of it.

The Hills star wrote: "@justinbieber now that I am getting divorced I think you and I should do a photo shoot together! Cutie ;) ! I'm closer to your age."

Closer than what is not clear. She's 23 and he's 16. That is minimum security prison territory for the 'Tag. Still, who can resist that bowl cut? Yummy ...

Lick It GoodJustin in England

MMM: That ice cream isn't the only thing Heidi finds delicious.

In addition to salivating over the Bieb online, Heidi also Tweeted some interesting information pertaining to her upcoming new reality show with Jen Bunney.

Apparently, she and the former Hills co-star will be welcoming a third roommate to their Malibu girls' pad (allegedly owned by Spencer's pal Cougar Zank):

Former Hugh Hefner girlfriend Karissa Shannon!

Yes, one of the Shannon Twins, but apparently not the other. We have no idea why, how she knows Heidi, or whether anyone would watch this crap, but:

"@karissashannon will be moving in my Malibu house this summer and will be filming our new show!" wrote Montag to her 1,063,188 followers today.

Whatever. That's all. Here's Heidi's Justin Bieber Tweet, which she'll probably take down after 'tween girls send her death threats a la kim Kardashian:

Heidi Tweet

NOTE: Follow THG on Twitter and get all the Justin Bieber news without the creepy come-ons. Seriously, Heidi. He doesn't pass the half-your-age-plus-seven test.

If you thought vampires in the Twilight saga were a bit vanilla compared to those in The Vampire Diaries or True Blood, just wait until the newborns arrive.

It could get ugly in a hurry when the army of just-born bloodsuckers is preparing to descend on Forks in Eclipse, which hits theaters in under two weeks.

A two-minute sneak preview featurette, called "Alliance," gives us some hints as to what transpires when they arrive - and how the Cullens handle it.

In addition to the action scenes, cast members Xavier Samuel, Elizabeth Reaser, Peter Facinelli, Jackson Rathbone and Kellan Lutz give us the lowdown.

No make-out scenes, but pretty cool ...

While the new iPhone 4 launches this coming Thursday, the new iOS 4 (new iPhone OS) is already up for release tomorrow, June 21st.
iOS 4 is compatible with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, 2nd and 3rd generation of iPod touch (late 2009 models with 32GB or 64GB). Some features of iOS 4 do not work on all devices. For example, Multitasking requires iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 or 3rd generation iPod touch. It is nice to know that Apple is not charging iPod touch owners anymore for upgrades.

Apple iOS 4 comes with over 100 new features, it includes Multitasking, Folders, enhanced Mail, deeper Enterprise support and Apple’s new iAd mobile advertising platform.

So if you are not in the first wave of iPhone 4 shipments or your iPhone 4 pre-order got canceled, at least you get the new iOS 4 user experience.

I just hope the iPhone 3GS hardware is powerful enough to run iOS 4 smoothly.
To install iOS 4 on your old iPhone you need to have iTunes 9.2 or later installed.
