MANILA, Philippines - Manny Pacquiao wants Josh Clottey to trim down to 145 lb for their WBO welterweight title fight on March 13 in Texas.

“We will push for 145 pounds just like in the Miguel Cotto fight,” said Pacquiao’s lawyer, Franklin Gacal, in an exclusive ABS-CBN interview yesterday.

“We will push for that catchweight,” he added despite a statement earlier issued by chief trainer Freddie Roach that they’re ready to take on the former IBF welterweight champion at 147 lb.

“These guys (Cotto and Clottey) are naturally bigger than Manny,” said Gacal.

Pacquiao fought Cotto at a catchweight of 145 lb, weighed in at 144 and climbed the ring under 150. It’s the winning formula as far as Roach is concerned, and to the trainer two pounds less wouldn’t spell a difference.

“I think Manny can fight Clottey at 147. He is the welterweight champion and therefore should fight anyone at 147,” said one of Pacquiao’s adviser, Wakee Salud.

It may not be too good for Pacquiao’s image if he calls himself the welterweight champion but calls for a catchweight each time he fights.

“Medyo hindi nga maganda. But as long as the opponents agree, then there’s nothing wrong with it,” said Salud.

Against Cotto, Pacquiao proved that he can take any of the world’s best welterweights, and their punches as well. He took the best Cotto could offer and ended up knocking out the Puerto Rican in the 12th and final round.

The Pacquiao vs Clottey showdown will take place at the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, after a superfight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. bogged down due to a disagreement on the blood-testing procedure.

Mayweather had wanted to keep the March 13 date at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, but reports came out yesterday that the fight had been pushed to April because HBO had decided to stick with the Pacquiao fight for its pay-per-view coverage.

Mayweather’s camp said there’s no way the undefeated American will face Paulie Malignaggi and had shifted its focus to Nate Campbell.

If only all celebrities were like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

They're gorgeous, they're talented, they provide us with endless, hilarious tabloid fodder - and they're as charitable as it gets.

The most recent example of their giving nature: the couple has contributed $1 million to emergency medical operations in Haiti, as that nation deals with thousands of deaths and incomprehensible damage in the wake of a 7.0-magnitude earthquake.

"It is incredibly horrible to see a catastrophe of this size hit a people who have been suffering from extreme poverty, violence and unrest for so many decades," said Jolie, while her partner added:

"We understand the first response is critical to serve the immediate needs of countless people who are now displaced from their homes, are suffering trauma, and most require urgent care."

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt

Specifically, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation is donating the funds to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontiéres, whose three hospitals in Port-au-Prince were severely damaged.

We hope other stars are paying close attention.

HP Sells First USB 3.0 Laptops

Posted by thams | 2:36 AM

USB 3.0 is the promised land, and Hewlett Packard is the first refugee to make it across the border. Their HP Envy 15 (Shanzai) is officially the first mainstream consumer laptop to sport USB 3.0 out of the box. If you order an Envy 15 from HP Direct (and get the version with ATI 5830 graphics and a quad-core i7 processor) it will come with USB 3.0. In addition, HP's business laptops (the Elitebook 8540p and 8540w) also have 3.0 inside.

With USB 3.0, your files will transfer up to ten times as fast as they did before (provided the other device is also USB 3.0). All USB 3.0 technology is backwards compatible, so you'll still be able to hook these laptops up to your old external hard drives. It just won't be nearly as much fun.

MANILA, Philippines - Smart Gilas Pilipinas lost steam in overtime and dropped a 69-77 decision to Qatar late Saturday in the second game of its exhibition series at the Al Gharaf Stadium in Doha, Qatar.

The Filipinos, who trounced the hosts in a low-scoring ballgame, 46-38, Friday, were held to just three points in the extra period while allowing the Qataris to score 11 to even things up in their goodwill series in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Noli Eala, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas executive director, took notice of the inclusion of an OT considering it was just a mere exhibition game.

“There should be no overtime but I guess Qatar would not want not to win at least one game,” said Eala.

Saad Abdlrah led the Qataris with 22 points while Efran Ali added 14 points as they improved to 2-1 against Smart Gilas, which lost to the former in the quarterfinals of the FIBA-Asia Champions Cup in Jakarta, Indonesia last year.

Mark Barroca and Chris Tiu took charge for Smart Gilas with 20 and 14 points, respectively, while import Jamal Sampson came away with 12 points and 13 rebounds with three shot blocks and two steals to boot.

Unlike in the first game, the Qataris found a way to break out of the Nationals’ solid interior defense as they built leads of as many as 11 points in the first half.

But Barroca and Tiu combined with the 6-11 Sampson in rallying the Nationals in the second half.

Tiu knocked in a triple with six seconds remaining in regulation period to force the overtime at 66.

Smart Gilas even surged ahead, 69-66, early in the extension but the hosts struck with key baskets en route to scoring 11 points for the victory.

Eala, however, said there was a questionable call in overtime that completely changed the complexion of the game.

“There was a crucial call with Qatar up, 70-69. Smart Gilas forced a turnover and Barroca got a fast break pass only to be called for a traveling violation,” said Eala. “Still, it was a good game.”

Smart Gilas is set to see action in the Dubai Invitational slated Jan 14-23 as part of its buildup for a crack at a berth in the 2010 Olympics.

The Dubai tilt features the top teams in the region, including Al Riyadi of Lebanon, Zain and ASU Sports Club of Jordan, Al Jalaa Aleppo and Al Ittihad Aleppo of Syria, Al Ittihad Alexandria of Egypt and the United Arab Emirates nationals squad.

Miley Cyrus is growing up.

The singer/actresss will soon depart Hannah Montana; she's moving in with her boyfriend; and she apparently just started dressing herself.

While the first two items listed may not be a problem, Miley clearly needs help with her wardrobe. Paging mother Tish!

Cyrus stepped out in public this weekend in cowboy boots, torn jeans and a strange, shredded shirt. You'd think her Sex and the City 2 cameo would have taught the star something about fashion...

At least Ashley Greene has learned something.

In August, pictures of the very naked Twilight Saga star were leaked online. They've since been removed, but trust us: they were quite bare and extremely X-rated.

Therefore, it's nice to see the actress wearing something over her private parts in a new, nationwide photo spread. Well, sort of.

Greene will be featured in the 2010 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition. She'll be starring in a series of ads for SoBe and she'll be donning her birthday suit yet again - this time, however, it will be covered by a painted-on body suit.

Seriously. We gave you a sneak peek earlier in the week and we've uncovered a handful of new images below. Check them out. They're pretty cool.

MANILA, Philippines - It’s Manny Pacquiao vs. Josh Clottey in Dallas.

Yes, the fight’s going to happen at Jerry Jones’ $1.3 billion life Stadium which fell short in its $25 million bid on the aborted superfight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The fight will take place on March 13, the same day that was originally reserved for the Pacquiao-Mayweather showdown at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

“But Las Vegas is no longer available on March 13. So, most likely it’s Dallas. And it’s still March 13,” said Pacquiao’s adviser, Mike Koncz(on the left), yesterday.

He said Pacquiao leaves for Los Angeles on Jan. 17 to begin his eight-week training for the Clottey fight. He will train in LA until the week before the fight when he takes a 160-minute flight to Dallas.

“The elections are coming up and there will be too many distractions if Manny trains in Baguio City,” said Koncz, referring to the May 10 elections where Pacquiao is seeking a congressional seat in his province of Sarangani.

It was not clear whether Mayweather would fight at the MGM Grand on March 13. But it’s a possibility and they’re looking at Paulie Malignaggi as the opponent.

Hopes for a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight died after both parties could not agree on the blood-testing procedure. Pacquiao wants it done 24 days before the fight, and Mayweather 14.

Another Pacquiao adviser, Wakee Salud of Cebu, had proposed a blood-testing 19 days before the fight but it seems that the proposal came a little too late.

Besides, there’s too much animosity now between the Pacquiao and Mayweather camps, after the Filipino boxing icon hurled the Mayweathers and his representatives from Golden Boy to court with a defamation suit.

The opposite camp had insisted on a stringent blood-testing Olympic-style because they suspect that Pacquiao, who has incredibly gone up in weight four times over the last 12 months, is into performance-enhancing drugs.

Now the blood-testing problem is gone, and so is the superfight that could have generated more than $100 million and given both fighters as much as $40 million each.

Clottey is also under Top Rank, like Pacquiao, and there shouldn’t be any problem sealing the fight. Pacquiao’s new opponent, who lost to Miguel Cotto last June, will climb that ring with or without any blood tests.

Arum said from now on, Pacquiao will entertain no more demands for drug-testing Olympic-style and would insist on the way it’s always been done before, Nevada-style, which is mostly based on urine tests.

Falling into Mayweather’s trap, for random blood-testing, and being dragged into countless hours of negotiations did the fight in. From the start, Pacquiao’s camp should have insisted that there’s no way it would happen.

“That was my biggest mistake, allowing any of this to happen. I should have said no. We’re not revisiting [blood testing]. We’re not negotiating with these punks anymore. If Mayweather wants to fight Pacquiao down the road, he will have to go by the testing the state commission asks for. If not, life goes on,” Arum told the Sports Illustrated.

And that goes to any of Pacquiao’s future opponents as well.

To be fair, the Asus Eee PC T101MT has actually been around for a year. Since its first appearance at the last CES show, it's been refurbished and updated to keep up with the times. Netbooked has a hands-on photo and some reports from CES 2010 attendees who used the new tabletbook.

First off, there have been some pretty substantial changes to this device in the last year. It now packs an Atom N450 Pinetrail processor and and Windows 7 Starter edition. The T101 is also billed as having a resistive multitouch 10.1" screen. HOWEVER, whether or not it actually packs one is up for debate. Windows 7 starter doesn't support multitouch, and numerous reports from the convention floor say that this tablet can't handle multitouch. There will be two versions of the T101MT. One that sports 1 GB of RAM and a 160 GB HDD, and another that has 2 GB of RAM and a 320 GB HDD, plus Win 7 Premium. I think it is likely that multitouch is only found in this "premium" edition of the T101MT.
